It does not alone establish active power or accumulated energy. A defensible energy result needs supported voltage/current measurement and interpretation, the applicable power relationship, and time information covering the reported interval.

Multiplying current by a nominal voltage and an assumed power factor produces an estimate under those assumptions, not directly measured branch energy. A software label in kilowatt-hours cannot supply information the instruments did not capture. Decide whether the project needs a current trend, an explicitly qualified estimate or documented energy measurement before buying the monitoring hardware.

This guide defines the evidence needed for those different claims. It provides no fabricated readings, default power factor, generic three-phase multiplier or billing approval.

Start with the quantity the project actually needs

Current trends can answer useful questions about changes in electrical loading within the measured channel’s scope. They can help an operations team see when a reading rises or falls. That usefulness does not require calling the trend energy consumption.

If the requirement is watts, establish how active power will be determined. If it is kilowatt-hours for a shift or month, establish how power is accumulated over that interval or which supported cumulative energy field supplies the result.

Do not accept a procurement specification that treats amperes, watts and watt-hours as interchangeable fields. Give each requested quantity its own source, unit, circuit boundary and interpretation.

Keep monitoring, energy reporting, billing and protection purposes distinct. A device suitable for one reporting task does not automatically possess the measurement, certification or functional scope needed for another.

Units and quantities only; no ratings or conversion factors supplied.

Distinguish current from apparent and active power

Current describes one electrical quantity. Voltage provides another. For an appropriately defined circuit, the product of RMS voltage and RMS current represents apparent power, not automatically active power.

Schneider’s Electrical Installation Guide distinguishes active power from apparent power and defines power factor through their relationship. This is the reason a current value alone cannot complete an active-power claim. Its described expression is not a universal formula for every three-phase arrangement. Schneider Electric, power-factor definition.

Two operating conditions with similar current readings need not have identical active power. Voltage and the relevant power relationship can differ. Do not rank branch energy solely from current magnitude without stating what additional evidence supports the comparison.

Likewise, a nominal supply voltage is not a recorded voltage history. It can be an assumption in a deliberately limited estimate, but the estimate must retain that assumption rather than being presented as a measured result.

Do not substitute displacement factor for true power factor

For nonlinear or distorted conditions, the meaning of power factor matters. True power factor and displacement power factor are not interchangeable labels. A fundamental phase relationship alone does not necessarily describe the full active-to-apparent-power relationship.

Schneider’s harmonic-indicator discussion explicitly separates true power factor from displacement power factor, which concerns fundamental components. Its simplified harmonic relationship has a sinusoidal or virtually sinusoidal voltage condition. That approximation is not adopted here as a universal nonlinear-load calculation. Schneider Electric, harmonic power-factor distinctions.

Ask which quantity an instrument reports and under which conditions. A field named PF in a platform is not sufficient evidence of the underlying measurement definition. Obtain the selected model’s documentation and the integrator’s interpretation.

Do not fill a missing power-factor field with an assumed constant and then remove the estimate label. If the relationship varies with operating state, a single assumed value can hide a limitation rather than resolve it.

Match the electrical boundaries

Voltage, current and any power information used together must belong to a supported measurement arrangement. Identify the circuit, phase/conductor relationships and actual quantity definitions. A current reading from one branch cannot simply inherit a power factor from another unrelated load.

Similarly, an upstream feeder quantity may cover equipment outside the branch being reported. If a model allocates part of that quantity to a branch, document the allocation as a separate assumption. Do not describe it as a direct branch measurement.

Three-phase arrangements need their own documented topology and phase treatment. Do not apply a balanced-system multiplier to an individual channel merely because the cabinet has three phases. The correct interpretation depends on what the selected instrument actually measures.

Preserve the electrical source identity beside each data item. This article focuses on whether the supplied quantities support an energy claim, not the separate task of building a complete channel map.

Add a defined time basis

Power and energy answer different questions. Energy represents accumulation of power over a period. A snapshot of current, or even a valid snapshot of active power, does not establish that period’s consumption.

Schneider’s MicroLogic Active energy-metering section describes power integration and separate energy types and accumulation modes for its exact control-unit family. It illustrates why time and accounting definitions must be explicit. Its calculation/storage intervals, supply requirements and reset behaviour do not transfer to RITOKS products. Schneider Electric, MicroLogic Active energy metering.

Record the interval start and end references and the provenance of the data covering that period. Identify missing samples or interrupted communications. An absent reading is not proof of zero consumption.

Where a supported cumulative energy register is used, confirm its unit, direction, accumulation meaning and any reset or replacement boundary. A difference between two values requires a valid relationship between those observations, not merely two numbers taken from the same screen.

Conceptual interval, not a recorded waveform, cadence or measured result.

Audit the evidence behind each platform quantity

Use this original quantity register to separate what is measured from what is calculated or assumed. A platform can display a calculated field even where its input evidence is incomplete. The register should expose that incompleteness before the result reaches a dashboard or quotation.

Know what the current-monitoring module supplies

その RITOKS 16-channel AC current-monitoring module provides a sourcing route for its selected current-monitoring configuration. Its published current inputs and communication options do not establish voltage measurement, power-factor calculation or energy accumulation.

Request the exact architecture, supported quantities and data map. Do not invent a sensor ratio, sampling method or timestamp capability to bridge a missing specification. Selected protocol options also require confirmation for the ordered unit.

A current-monitoring choice can remain appropriate where the actual requirement is current visibility. The procurement problem arises when a downstream platform promises measured branch energy without the necessary additional information.

Ask the platform supplier to identify every extra data source and assumption. If the result is estimated, insist that the reported quantity and limitations describe that status accurately.

Select a documented metering variant when required

Where supported power and energy quantities are needed, review a configuration designed and documented for those functions. Obtain the actual electrical inputs, topology, quantity definitions and register information rather than choosing from a multifunction product name alone.

その RITOKS digital power-meter family includes single-function and multifunction configurations. Do not grant the multifunction variant’s listed measurement scope to every ammeter or voltmeter in the family.

For the selected variant, confirm the required power/energy fields, input arrangement, any applicable ratios, units and accumulation behaviour. Obtain the actual communication protocol and map; RS485 alone does not prove Modbus or a particular register layout.

Supplier-stated accuracy information also needs its exact quantity and standard scope. It does not independently establish billing certification or a universal energy-accuracy guarantee. Treat the product page as an enquiry starting point, not a completed acceptance report.

Keep estimates transparent and bounded

An estimate can be useful for a clearly defined screening purpose if its inputs and limitations are documented. State which quantities were measured, which were assumed and which time periods lack evidence.

Do not invent default voltage, power factor or a sample interval to make the estimate reproducible. Use project-supported inputs and retain their provenance. Where a model is revised, preserve the previous version and identify whether historical reported values changed.

Avoid false precision. More decimal places do not improve missing electrical or time information. Do not describe an estimated decline as a verified saving without an appropriate comparison basis and supporting evidence.

Use this original decision table to choose the reporting claim before procurement.

Intended use

Appropriate evidence request

Claim that needs more support

Current visibility

Exact current channels, units and interpretation

Measured energy from current alone

Screening estimate

Declared measured inputs and supported assumptions

Billing-grade or directly measured consumption

Active-power reporting

Documented electrical measurement and phase treatment

Energy for a period without time evidence

Interval energy reporting

Supported accumulation/time method and gap handling

Complete consumption through undocumented outages

Before/after comparison

Consistent quantities, boundaries, periods and data status

Verified savings from a changed current snapshot

Billing or settlement

Applicable certified/contractual measurement requirements

Approval inferred from a dashboard or catalogue class

The table does not prescribe a universal architecture. It helps the buyer identify the missing evidence and avoid asking a current-only device to support an unrelated claim.

Retain the reporting boundary through changes

Record device replacement, register reset, interpretation changes and interruptions affecting the reporting interval. Keep original data separate from substituted estimates or corrected calculations.

When a branch changes load or a reporting model changes inputs, review whether earlier comparisons remain meaningful. Database continuity does not guarantee that the electrical quantity or estimation basis stayed constant.

Qualified personnel must assess any required electrical measurement arrangement using approved equipment instructions and safe-work procedures. This guide provides no live data-collection or CT-handling recipe.

The completed procurement record should state the reporting purpose, exact configuration, measured quantities, additional inputs, time method and unresolved limitations. Honest current monitoring or a labelled estimate is more defensible than an unsupported energy total.

よくある質問

Can a branch current reading be converted directly to kilowatt-hours?

Not by itself. Active-power interpretation and time information are missing. Any calculation using assumed inputs must remain a documented estimate.

Is voltage multiplied by current always active power?

No. For the defined RMS circuit relationship it represents apparent power. The applicable active-power relationship and topology need supporting evidence.

Can cos phi replace true power factor for every load?

No. Displacement and true power factor differ under distortion. Obtain the actual measurement definition rather than assuming a universal relationship.

Does a multifunction-meter family name prove every variant measures energy?

No. Confirm the selected model and its quantities.
